Take10 – To Sleep, To Relax

The energy drink business has exploded in the last decade with everything from extreme caffeine sodas to tiny shots of vigor. In the past couple years, however, there has been an even bigger boom in the exact opposite direction, the Relaxation drink. We’ve had quite a few of them on our site already, but recently, I had the pleasure of getting my hands on a few “relaxation shots” from Take10, one of the few I’ve seen on the market. If you want to be like me, you can head over to take10beverages.com and order some.

Take10 Beverages is a relatively new company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, devoted to getting you to do exactly what the name implies.  With two flavors so far, Take1o: To Sleep and Take10: To Relax. The bottles themselves, which reminded me of shampoo bottles in a hotel and were a little awkward to drink out of, are filled with two ounces of non-carbonated, zero sugar, and zero calorie relaxation.

We’ll start out with “To Sleep”. The Sleepy One has the same rose hips, valerian root and hormone, melatonin, that drank contains. It, however, adds a few more including Kava Root and Passion Flower, that worked so well in Mary Jane’s and Chamomile Extract. In the article for drank I have stated I am a night owl, so changing the way I sleep is an issue for me. So for me this shot was amazing, twenty minutes after taking it, I was out like a light. Though, again, I can only recommend this drink if you are looking for ways to fall asleep without taking prescriptions or other medication.

The side-effects of melatonin are just too unknown and I’m very weary of things pregnant women can’t drink. As for the taste, its Blackberry flavor wasn’t the best berry I’ve had, but certainly wasn’t the worse. It reminded me a lot of drank,  and was quite tart. I don’t see flavoring being anything, but a slight hit on the score though, seeing as this sleeping pill in a bottle is only two ounces, I drank the whole thing in a less than a few seconds. In the end it did exactly what it advertised.

I will start talking about “To Relax” by emphasizing that I am not stressed, ever. So I am basing my review of this drink solely on the taste and how I felt shortly after drinking it. I had it right after waking up groggy and hating mornings like usual, and right away it helped me wake up. The sourness of the flavor, White Grape, was extremely tart and made my eyes open wide.

The actual effects of the shot, which has some of the same ingredients as To Sleep, sans sleep inducing ones obviously, were clear soon after. I was wide awake, which rarely happens for me until hours after waking, and quite focused. In fact, I’m writing this while under the influence right now. I can’t see myself having it regularly, but it certainly is a beverage I would tell people to get, rather than using caffeinated sodas or 5-Hour Energy.
