HealthGuard – Be Happy

On the trail of  other relaxing shots we have “Be Happy Mood Booster” made by HealthGuard, a company out of California. It’s a “mood enhancing” chocolate-cherry flavored shot, packed in a two ounce bottle. Since Californians seem to be a pretty happy bunch, it would seem it is a logical place for such a product to have its origins. According to the marketing it’s supposed to get you, “out of the doldrums and puts that spring back in your step.”

Before I talk about the drink itself, I feel I should mention, I wasn’t particularly tired, stressed or “in the doldrums” when I drank it. Nor do I buy supplements, like Be Happy. (more…)

Take10 – To Sleep, To Relax

Jordan

The energy drink business has exploded in the last decade with everything from extreme caffeine sodas to tiny shots of vigor. In the past couple years, however, there has been an even bigger boom in the exact opposite direction, the Relaxation drink. We’ve had quite a few of them on our site already, but recently, I had the pleasure of getting my hands on a few “relaxation shots” from Take10, one of the few I’ve seen on the market. If you want to be like me, you can head over to take10beverages.com and order some.

Take10 Beverages is a relatively new company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, devoted to getting you to do exactly what the name implies.  With two flavors so far, Take1o: To Sleep and Take10: To Relax. The bottles themselves, which reminded me of shampoo bottles in a hotel and were a little awkward to drink out of, are filled with two ounces of non-carbonated, zero sugar, and zero calorie relaxation.

drank – Extreme Relaxation

drank canLately there has been a large movement in ‘anti-energy’ drinks, or ‘Relaxation’ sodas. We have actually reviewed few of them, but drank (spelled with a lowercase d) is a different type of relaxation. Innovative Beverage Group, the owners of drank, like to call it “Extreme Relaxation”. What makes drank different? It contains 1mg melatonin, 10mg  rose hips, and 10mg valerian root per serving. While rosehips and valerian root are generally regarded as safe, I was a little concerned about the melatonin ,which is a hormone produced by your brain to regulate your sleep cycle. This may cause you to become drowsy and/or fall asleep (the label on the can warns of this).

Mini Chill – Berry Bliss

Seemingly staying on the “relaxation” band wagon; Mini Chill is a brand new product from Steve Panzella designed to help you relax and promote focused and clear thinking. Designed to be fast acting and non-drowsy, Mini Chill promises to help you relax and gain focus and clarity. I came into this review with some skepticism. I’m not a big supplement person. I don’t take vitamins, herbs, or anything else, unless you count caffeine. However, I was surprised how well it actually worked and the following review is thanks to the affects of Mini Chill.

Mini Chill comes in small 2 ounce bottles, with a 780 milligrams of Relarian, a blend of amino acids and herbs including Valerian Root extract and GABA to help you relax; L-Theanine to reduce stress and improve your mood; and 5-HTP which increases your Serotonin levels. (more…)

Mary Jane’s – Relaxing Soda

Mary Jane’s Soda is a company out of Denver, CO, that specialize in the aptly named “Relaxing Soda”. Made from Kava extract, Passionflower and sugarcane. Kava, the main ingredient has been used for thousands of years in the South Pacific as a ceremonial beverage and was served to Captain Cook when he visited the Hawaiian Islands in 1768. Today it is used as a treatment for stress, insomnia, and anxiety.

When I first popped the cork I could smell something familiar but couldn’t place the smell. After sipping on it I still couldn’t quite place the taste, it was quite sweet and fruity but with a slight bitterness to follow. Mary Jane’s states they have eliminated the “significantly unpleasant taste” of kava, and in that respect they have. I’ve never had kava or passionflower, but I imagine it isn’t exactly delicious.
