Oogave – Esteban’s Rootbeer & Esteban’s Cola

While a lot of soda makers turned to pure cane sugar in lieu of high fructose corn syrup, only Oogave skipped over cane sugar in favor of organic agave nectar.

Now this is what I want in a natural and organic soda. Containing just carbonated water, organic agave nectar, citric acid and some natural flavors, about the only more natural drink would be water itself. Esteban’s Cola has just one more ingredient added to that list: caffeine.

Agave nectar is a natural sweetener that comes from the Agave plant, related to the american aloe plant. (more…)

Thomas Kemper – Root Beer & Orange Cream & Ginger Ale

Taking on some other flavors from Thomas Kemper, there are some good ones, and a not so good one.

I was very surprised by the Root Beer. This was the first time I’ve had a Root Beer soda plain, I’ve had them as Root Beer Floats, but never just as a soda before. It tasted good, with a hint of vanilla and the honey helped bring out a sweetness in this very creamy and smooth soda. Giving it a little shake resulted in a nice amount of foam. Was I suppose to do that? I don’t know, but it seemed like it softened up the flavor a little bit.

The Ginger Ale was my least favorite of this brand. In my opinion, the honey had a negative affect on the flavor. There was a bitterness taste to it that I really did not like. It wasn’t what I was expecting Ginger Ale to taste like. (more…)
